As a Management major and Marketing minor, should I take internships over part-time jobs?
Would it look better on the resume in, say, 5 years from now? I’ve been in 4 jobs in my life so far, all entry level positions. The one I’m in now is as a part-time UPS worker. Does it not matter which road I take, just as long as I juggle the opportunities with appropriate balance?
I have a double bachelor in Management and Marketing. THe best thing is if you KNOW want industry…I would take the part-time job. If you are not sure..do the industry. I found i hate finance and love entertainment. Then the really fun begins
I did the marketing side then management for the music business. and the marketing was my end result. Online marketing
Yes Yes Yes. while all experience is significant an internship in the field you choose will give you invaluable experience for future job opportunities. In all 3 jobs I have had since college the deciding factor for hiring me was because of the internships I had relating to my field, same goes for the interviews I scored. Now is the time to really search out what you might want to do. Good luck and have fun!
From what I understand, UPS pays pretty good, but to have work experience in the field that you are pursuing (even if it pays less) is invaluable. You will learn so much practical, real-world knowledge that isn’t taught in class.
The most difficult part of getting that first professional job is overcoming the hurdle of not having experience. It would be in you best interest to get that experience and to get to know the people in your field who can assist you when you graduate.
Who knows, the company that you intern for, might just hire you at a much higher salary when you get your degree and you won’t even have to go out searching for a job.
